Huge Grading success

Posted on: July 4th, 2016 by David Finch

For the first time we saw Gradings for our colour-belts and senior grades all on one day and it certainly did not disappoint.

Everyone in every class has been working so hard for the last few weeks and it really did show in the level and attitude on the day.

In the morning we saw our hugely excited Mighty Matts show some incredible concentration and energetic drills, much to the delight of Mr Harris our Grading examiner.  This was followed by our Juniors and Adults who worked extremely hard – showing the results of some really dedicated training.

After a short break it was the turn of our Panel Grading students (Red-Stripe & above) and it was certainly an impressive performance by everyone.  This Panel Grading in particular was one of the toughest challenges our students have faced and we had plenty of sweat and tears, pushing the boundaries of even our most seasoned students.

Each and every candidate gave 100% throughout and it was an absolute pleasure to see everyone achieve what they have.

From our senior students I am delighted to announce the successful promotion to:

Red Belt

  • Ben Davis

Deputy Black Belt

  • Jasper Knight
  • Emma Watson

1st Degree Black Belt

  • Alfie Glenie
  • Ella Newey
  • Megan Hill
  • Marlowe Greenhill-Jeffery

2nd Degree Black Belt

  • James Manners
  • Romesh De Zoysa
  • Emily Calder

3rd Degree Black Belt

  • Charlie Hinder

Yr6 Fun at Barham Primary School

Posted on: June 18th, 2016 by David Finch

We were delighted to be invited to teach the Yr6 children of Barham C of E Primary School on Friday as part of their activity day.  This was a special day organised with the Canterbury School Sports Partnership and gave the children and chance to try new and diverse activities such as American Football, water-based netball (not water polo!) and of course Martial Arts.

Well done to all the children and it was wonderful to see everyone tackle all the challenges like a true Black Belt.

Olympic Legacy continues at Hernhill Primary

Posted on: June 10th, 2016 by David Finch

Thursday, 9th June saw the MF Kent Team continue their work within the community with a fun day of Martial Arts PE lessons at Hernhill CofE Primary School.

This day was part of the Charles Harris Olympic Legacy Programme, set-up to provide opportunities to young children across the region that they otherwise would not have experienced.

We were extremely impressed with the amazing attitude, energy, concentration and manners displayed by all the children – a true credit to the school.

As well as lots of fun-filled exercise and Martial Arts, we focused on Concentration for years 2-5 and Having a Black Belt Attitude for year 6.

Well done to everyone involved and we hope to visit again in the new academic year.

This week we continued our work within the community with a day of fun-filled & educational Martial Arts classes for years 3-6 at Whitstable & Seasalter Endowed CE (Aided) Junior School.

The school is running a “Try Something New” week with lots of different activities such as archery, music, dance and, of course, Martial Arts.

We taught 6 x 45-min classes through the day and it was great to see every child (and teacher!) getting involved and smiling throughout.  Well done to everyone involved.

Young Leader teaching Stranger Danger

Posted on: May 11th, 2016 by David Finch

As part of his Junior Instructor training, Billy Hill from our Staplehurst School, presented his wonderful Community Challenge in class to his fellow students last week.

As part of the course the candidates have to organise and deliver something beneficial for the local community and Billy chose to teach Martial Arts and, more specifically, Stranger Danger to his local Primary School.

Billy planned and delivered all the sessions and learnt a great deal from the day.  This takes a great deal of courage and leadership skills and we are all extremely proud of Billy.

Team Success at Southern Championships

Posted on: May 8th, 2016 by David Finch

Saturday, 7th May saw the MF Kent Team travel to the Loddon Valley Leisure Centre in Reading for the 2016 Southern Championships.  These events are always very well attended and contested and this one did not disappoint.

After weeks of preparation and hard work we took a team of 15 and it is no exaggeration to say that each and every member gave their all.  We had tears, nerves, laughs and cheers throughout the day and with over 500 people watching the excitement was incredible.

MF Kent Team

  • Shahd Mohammed
  • Marwan Mohammed
  • Hugo Ross-Phillips
  • Emily Calder (2 x Gold, 2 x Bronze)
  • Ethan May (2 x Bronze)
  • Joseph Parkin
  • Harry Watkinson
  • Millie-Rose Hinder (2 x Bronze)
  • Charlie Hinder (1 x Silver, 1 x Bronze)
  • Lauren Russell
  • Jake Porter-Ward (1 x Silver)
  • Harry Richardson
  • John Boon (1 x Gold, 1 x Bronze)
  • Joshua Boon
  • Lauren Coulthard (1 x Silver)

Success at events like these can be measured in so many ways.  For some success is fighting back the nerves and stepping onto the mat or winning through one round.  For others it might be to reach further in the competition than last time or even win a medal.  Whichever it is we had a team of winners for sure.

A huge thank you to all our amazing parents, families and friends who came to support with so much energy and passion.  The atmosphere and team spirit was fantastic throughout the day and really highlights what a family we are.  In addition, thank you to our MF Kent Team Instructors and Leaders for helping, motivating and supporting all day.  It was amazing to see our “seasoned” competitors coaching (to great success!) our younger members.
