Self-defence with Maidstone Grammar School for Girls

We are delighted to be working with Maidstone Grammar School for Girls this year, delivering self-defence P.E. lessons to year 11.

The classes got off to a fantastic start today and will continue for the next 3-mths working on everything from basic self-defence principles, basic strikes and some fun fitness.  Well done ladies!

Martial Arts at Sheldwich Primary School

We are very excited to begin a 6-week programme with Sheldwich Primary School today.  Over the course of the programme we will be teaching years 1 & 3, showing them a variety of fun Martial Arts techniques as well as learning about focus and concentration.

This programme has been funded through the Canterbury School Sports Partnership.

Christmas Shut-down dates

Please make a note of the following shut-down dates for all of our class. During these dates there will be no classes running; 22nd Dec ~ 1st Jan (incl.)

Last classes of 2017

  • Canterbury last class: 20th Dec
  • Herne last class: 16th Dec
  • Maidstone last class: 15th Dec
  • Staplehurst last class: 21st Dec*
  • Ashford last class: 19th Dec

 

 

 

*This class will run from the Staplehurst Village Centre (North Hall):

  • Mighty Matts & Juniors: 4:00pm
  • Seniors: 4:45pm
  • Weapons: 5:30pm

All classes will resume as normal from Tuesday, 2nd January onwards.

December Colour-belt Grading

The last Grading Day for 2017 is fast approaching and I hope everyone is excited about the next challenge.

We will start the process of “tagging” this week and will continue this leading up to the Grading Day.  If a Black Tag has been awarded we will also hand out a letter explaining what to do next (homework, venue etc).

As always, if a student is not quite ready for the December Grading that is ok.  Martial Arts is an ongoing journey and there will be plenty of exciting challenges and opportunities ahead.

Here are the details for the Grading:

  • Students: White Belt – Blue Belt (incl.)
  • Date: Sunday, 10th December 2017
  • Venue: Simon Langton Boys School, Canterbury, CT4 7AS
  • Times: Mighty Matts – 0930hrs, Juniors & Adults – 1015hrs

Canterbury classes – change of venue (Nov & Dec)

Due to school events the following three dates will run from SIMON LANGTON GIRLS SCHOOL at the normal times (click here for directions):

  • Wednesday, 22nd November
  • Wednesday, 29th November
  • Wednesday, 6th November

You can park at anywhere in the school car park and entry is through the main school reception doors and follow the signs.  Classes will be in the school gym at the end of the long corridor.

All other dates including Sundays remain as normal at the boys school.

2017 International Championships

2017 International Championships

Saturday, 4th November

Oasis Leisure Centre, Swindon

It is that time of year again when all the best competitors from the MF family come together to compete for the title of “British Champion”.  This year is extra special because, as well as students from across the UK and Scotland, we welcome our cousins from Australia making this tournament the 2017 International Championships.

 

We will be training for this in every sessions and so if you would like to be part of the MF Kent Team please speak to your Instructor.  You can compete in:

 

 

 

  • Mighty Matt (3-6yrs) Hand-drills
  • Mighty Matts (3-6yrs) Kick-Boxing Drill (Brown-stripes and above only)
  • Mighty Matt (3-6yrs) Wavemaster
  • Hand-drills
  • Kick-boxing drill
  • Sparring
  • Forms (individual, pairs & Instructor categories)
  • Extreme kicking

This is a really exciting family day out and students will take so many positives from it so come and speak to us and be part of team MF Kent!

WELCOME BACK

I hope you have had a wonderful summer break and enjoyed lots of fun family time.

From today we are now back and running as normal* and very much look forward to seeing you all back in class, working towards some exciting goals.

*Staplehurst School – we are still in the Village Centre (North Hall) on Thursday, 31st Aug and back at the Primary School on Thursday, 7th September at our normal class times.

Summer shut down

As usual, each summer it is important that we all have a little break from the normal routine to charge the batteries.  This year our summer shut down will be:

Monday, 21st – Sunday, 27th August (inclusive)

There will be no classes running during this period.  All classes will run as usual before and after this little break.

Belt & certificate presentations

After the wonderful successes of the past Grading we are excited to let you know that belt & certificate presentations will take place across our schools from Monday, 3rd July onward.

Be sure to bring along family, friends and cameras and join in the celebrations.

Those students who have reached 1st Degree Black Belt and above, we will contact you when your belts have been completed.

Father and son running for Cancer Research

On Sunday, 2nd July one of our adult Black Belts, Saom, and his father Amir, will be taking part in Man on the Run; a wonderful 5k run raising much needed funds and awareness for male cancer research.

This is such a fantastic cause and challenge – one which we know you will both triumph in.
