NEW 6th Form MF Martial Arts Academy

Posted on: February 17th, 2015 by David Finch

We are delighted to formally announce the upcoming launch of the new MF Martial Arts Academy in partnership with The Canterbury Academy school.

This is an utterly unique partnership between MF Kent and a local school, providing a mixture of first class education with a ground breaking Martial Arts programme.

This Academy is part of a wider range of Academy options that the school offer and is new for 2015.  6th form students who are part of the Martial Arts Academy will have 2hrs of training every day of their academic life.  This will involve a wide variety of areas including:

  • Martial Arts training (multi discipline)
  • Physical training (use of gym facility and sports science methods)
  • Leadership development

This programme is open to any student who currently studies a Martial Art (whatever the discipline) or students who would like to start.

We are enrolling now for September 2015 so if you have not decided on your 6th Form option or know somebody considering their options do get in touch: kent@mattfiddes.com

Day of Martial Arts PE at Petham Primary School

Posted on: October 1st, 2014 by David Finch

Tuesday, 14th October 2014

We are very excited to have been invited to visit Petham Primary School, Canterbury for a fun-packed day or Martial Arts PE lessons.

Every child in the school (and teachers!) will have the chance to experience the fun benefits of Martial Arts with MF Kent.  We also have a number of wonderful MF Kent students who attend Petham so this will be a great chance for them to show their skills and be an Assistant Instructor for the day.

Continuing with the community

We are delighted to have been asked, yet again, to provide Martial Arts tuition to the children of Parkside Community Primary School, Canterbury .  These fun classes will continue throughout the 2014-2015 academic year and have been funded by the Canterbury Sports Premium.

Our fist class for this year starts on Wednesday, 24th September and we are very much looking forward to working with such a forward thinking and community based school with some wonderful children.

MF Kent part of Junior Sport Development Camp: “Making Winners”

Posted on: September 2nd, 2014 by David Finch

The Canterbury Academy is running a pilot project looking at developing talent within sport. The aim of the project is to provide an experience for talented children that will get them thinking, working hard on sports related skills and most importantly having fun in an inspiring environment. The programme is designed to develop the sporting potential of a selected number of young children in the local area. The target age range is for Year 5 pupils (9/10 year olds) and we have selected a group of 28 children to make up the first intake.

The aim is to give these talented 10 year olds an experience that will provide them with some core physical and mental skills that will help them succeed in sport and other walks of life whilst maintaining the fun element that is so important for all of us involved in sport. A key part of the programme will be looking at what it takes to be a winner in sport and to ensure that the children know how to win and lose with dignity. In this day and age of high stakes in sport, some of the traditional values associated with sportsmanship and fair play have become blurred and we will work very hard to have this as a key foundation to the programme.

MF Kent has been selected to provide Martial Arts tuition for the duration of the course to teach the children not only the key physical skills that can be of benefit in all physical activities (balance, flexibility, agility etc) but also the vital mental skills such as self-control, determination, focus & much more.

The Canterbury Academy works with a number of sports clubs, coaches and national governing bodies and this pilot project will aim to bring a whole host of partners together to help inspire some of Canterbury’s future sporting stars.

Master Finch doing Ironman 70.3 UK event for SCOPE

Some of you know that I like a challenge and as I have never participated in a triathlon there are few bigger than this.  The Ironman70.3 UK event (15th June 2014) is the toughest course in the UK and consists of: 1.2 mile run… 56 mile bike 13.1 run

I will be doing this for SCOPE – a wonderful charity providing opportunities for disabled people.  I would be so greatful if you could donate and support what you can and help spread the word.

Huge thanks

Master Finch
